Today, history is at stake in Flushing.
The men’s championship of the US Open is set for September 13, where Ben Shelton aims to be the first American man to capture a Grand Slam title in 23 years. Additionally, he strives to be the first Black man to win the U.S. Open since 1968.
To achieve this, he’ll need to overcome Alexander Zverev.
Shelton, seeded No. 8, reached his inaugural US Open final by defeating fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the semifinals last Friday. He also had a grueling battle against reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals, which kicked off on the night of September 8 and wrapped up at 3:33 a.m. ET the next day.
