KILLINGTON, Vt. — Police said 23 skiers and snowboarders had to be rescued from the frigid temperatures after getting lost in the backcountry of Killington, Vt., on Saturday.
Killington Police said after receiving a call around 2:30 p.m., search and rescue teams traveled about five miles on hiking, snowshoeing and skinned skis to find 21 lost skiers and riders. The group was brought back to safety, Killington police said in a Facebook post.
The temperature was in the single digits.
Skiers and snowboarders warmed up and returned home in rescue vehicles.
Then another call came in for two more missing skiers.
Six rescue workers returned to the forest to find the animal and took it to safety around 7:30 p.m., police said.
Rescuers included members of Killington Search and Rescue and Killington Resort Ski Patrol.

“A special thank you must go to all the volunteers who responded to this call and worked,” the police department said in a post.
