Approximately 25,000 pounds of frozen buffalo chicken products are being recalled because they were made without proper inspection, according to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the Department of Agriculture, which made the announcement on Wednesday.
The Boston-based company, Shanghai Ravioli Corporation, is involved in recalling nearly 24,900 pounds of these not-ready-to-eat buffalo chicken items.
The recall includes boxes that contain 100 pieces of “Buffalo Chicken Rangoon” as well as boxes with 120 pieces of “Benedetto’s Buffalo Chicken Mozzarella Stick.”
The affected products have sell-by dates ranging from July 8, 2026, to June 29, 2027, as indicated on the packaging.
These frozen foods were produced on various dates stretching from July 8, 2025, to June 29, 2026, and were distributed to food service locations in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
FSIS expressed concern that some of these recalled items might still be in food service refrigerators or freezers. Food service providers that have these products are advised not to serve them and to either dispose of them or return them to where they were purchased.
The recalled products mistakenly bear an inspection mark with the establishment number “EST. 18004,” but this establishment does not have a federal inspection grant, which raises concerns.
FSIS noted that food produced without inspection may contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria, or other contaminants, posing risks to consumer health and safety.
This issue came to light through FSIS surveillance activities. Fortunately, there have been no confirmed cases of illness or injury associated with these products. Anyone who is worried about potential health issues should reach out to a healthcare provider.
