According to a Department of Homeland Security report reviewed by Breitbart Texas, 1,953 migrants from China were apprehended at the Southwest border during July, bringing the total number of Chinese nationals apprehended at the border this year to 35,300.
According to an unofficial report provided by a Customs and Border Protection source, the number of apprehensions of migrants from communist regimes reached 24,125, up from the figures for 2023. Customs and Border Protection reported that only six Chinese nationals were apprehended at the Southwest border in January 2021, the first month of the Biden-Harris administration. The source said the increase in the number of Chinese nationals crossing the border cannot be explained by any explanation that agency intelligence officials were able to conclude through post-arrest interviews.
More than 80% of Chinese migrants are single adults. After being processed by the Border Patrol, the vast majority are released, with few exceptions, to apply for asylum in the US. In July, the Department of Homeland Security organized the first repatriation flight since 2018 for more than 100 Chinese nationals. Sources say the single flight was a facade that did little to stop them from entering the country.
In a statement released at the time, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said, “We will continue to enforce our immigration laws and remove individuals who have no legal basis to be in the United States. People should not believe the lies of smugglers.”
The source said that the deportation of 100 of the more than 35,000 Chinese nationals who arrived since October 2023 speaks for itself. “You can tell who the liars are. If you think this is going to be a deterrent to anyone, you should think again,” the source told Breitbart Texas.
The total number of Chinese nationals arriving at the border is down from a peak of 5,962 in December 2023. Sources say the drop is not due to actions taken by U.S. authorities at the border, but rather to measures taken in Mexico and other countries at the end of the year. With the start of an election year, Mexico began tough enforcement measures on its southern border with Guatemala and in other cities between Guatemala and the U.S.-Mexico border.
These measures included severely limiting the number of migrants who could board the freight train known as “La Bestia,” or “The Beast,” bound for the U.S. Enforcement measures in Mexico have significantly reduced the number of migrants crossing the Southwest border.
In July, the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs suspended visa waivers with China. Under the Biden-Harris administration, Ecuador was a gateway to South America for Chinese nationals. Despite the move, sources said the pace of arrests and releases of Chinese nationals at the U.S. border has remained at about 100 per day.
Sources told Breitbart that intelligence interviews of arrested migrants have yielded little information about them or their reasons for coming to the country. Language barriers have been a challenge, the sources said.
Breitbart Texas recently spoke with Dr. Kenneth Allard, a retired Army colonel and former dean of students at the National War College, about the increased Chinese immigration into the United States under the Biden-Harris administration. warhead: Cable News and the Fog of War, Allard, a former intelligence officer and special assistant to the Army chief of staff, also worries about the lack of information about the sharp increase in arrests of immigrants from the People’s Republic of China.
Allard said most Chinese migrants may actually be dissidents fleeing harsh conditions in China, but as an expert on totalitarian regimes he believes the current administration lacks the will to properly investigate the phenomenon.
“Totalitarian governments like China are adept at taking advantage of opportunities. They recognize weaknesses and are quick to exploit them. What we are seeing reflects a deliberate policy choice by the regime,” Allard explained.
Asked about the possibility of China exploiting the current crisis along the southern border, Allard said Beijing is certainly aware of President Biden’s weakness on the international stage, adding, “It’s clear that he’s not fully in control of the situation at this point, and China knows that.”
The influx of Chinese nationals has been a boon for Mexican drug cartels, who are eager to orchestrate the final leg of Chinese migrants’ journey to the U.S. Breitbart reported that the cost of smuggling them from China to the U.S.-Mexico border can be as high as $55,000.
Several recent arrests may indicate what new arrivals from China are thinking. In February, Border Patrol agents near Indio, California, encountered five Chinese nationals at a Border Patrol inspection station. Agents found the migrants in possession of numerous stolen gift cards and 23 counterfeit Pennsylvania driver’s licenses. All five migrants were arrested, according to the Border Patrol. Three of the five Chinese nationals were determined to be asylum seekers who had been released by the Department of Homeland Security after entering the United States illegally.
In Canton, Texas, two Chinese nationals were arrested by Van Zandt County law enforcement officials on August 2, 2024, and found to be carrying more than $250,000 in cash, according to CBS19. ReportThe suspects, Weijian Chen, 25, and Wenjiang Lin, 46, were released into the United States without bail by CBP after being arrested by Border Patrol in 2023. The two have not claimed ownership of the gold and are charged with money laundering in the amounts of $150,000 and $300,000.
