Three American women were found dead at a beach resort in Belize. Officers are looking at possible drug overdose after finding “alcohol and some gummies” in the room.
Kaoutar Naqqad, 23, Imane Mallah, 24, and Wafae El-Arar, 26, were all found from Libya, Massachusetts, at Royal Cahal Beach Resort in San Pedro on Saturday, police said.
Residential staff tried to contact the woman several times on Friday after surveillance footage showed she had entered the room the night before and had not returned, police said. When they had not received a response by Saturday, the hotel staff entered the room and found out that the woman was not responding.
The cause of their deaths has not been confirmed, but the first responder said he discovered that the foamy woman had foam in her mouth, suggesting a possible drug overdose I did.
“The police searched the scene in depth, along with scenes of pathologists and crime. Police Commissioner Chester Williams said there was no substance found other than alcohol and some trash. According to Channel 5 Belize.
“At this point, we're not saying that the gummies caused death, we're looking at all possible possibilities,” he added.
Police are investigating whether the woman brought the gummies into the country or bought them locally.
“We try our best to do our best, including seeing where they went on Thursday before they head home and what happens if they consumed them. These we're looking at. Everything,” Williams said.

Police said the woman had no signs of forced entry or visible injuries. Officers found snacks, liquids, steam and other electronics in the room.
Each woman's online fundraiser had raised more than $25,000 by Tuesday morning to bring her body back to the US and cover the funeral.
Local media said the three women were of Moroccan descent, but retained US citizenship.
