Three inmates accused of killing notorious Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger in prison in 2018 are scheduled to appear in court Monday for arraignment and sentencing.
The trial for Fotios “Freddy” Geas, Paul J. DeColologiero and Sean McKinnon will be held in federal court in northern West Virginia. The plea agreements for the three were announced last month.
Bulger, 89, was bludgeoned to death in his cell just hours after being transferred to a troubled West Virginia prison six years ago.

Geas and DeCollogero are accused of striking Bulger repeatedly in the head while McKinnon acted as lookout.
DeCollogero told witnesses that Bulger was a “snitch” and that he planned to kill Bulger as soon as he entered their room. DeCollogero also told inmates that he and Geas had beaten Bulger to death with a belt containing a lock.
Geas and DeColologiero were charged with murder, and all three were charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, which carries a life sentence, and McKinnon was also charged with making false statements to federal agents.

The Justice Department announced last year that it would not seek the death penalty against Geas and DeCologero.
Bulger, who led a predominantly Irish gang in Boston in the 1970s and ’80s, became one of America’s most wanted fugitives after fleeing Boston in 1994. He was arrested at age 81 after more than 16 years on the run.
He was convicted in 2013 of 11 murders and dozens of other gang crimes.
