Democrats could pursue a three-step political process to replace President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election, POLITICO The outline was laid out in February, perhaps in anticipation of Biden’s poor performance in Thursday’s debate.
Reported alternative candidates include Vice President Kamala Harris, two-time presidential loser Hillary Clinton and former first lady Michelle Obama. Fight Mental health issues — and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.)
Replacing Biden will not be easy. There is no clear candidate to replace him. Harris has a lower approval rating than Biden. Clinton, who denies the election results, has already lost once to former President Donald Trump, and Michelle Obama does not seem interested in the post.
The three-stage political process is POLITICOSenior Political Editor Charlie Mathesian and Senior Elections Editor and Chief Polling Analyst Stephen Shepherd include A “white knight candidate who joined late” due to the filing deadline.
The deadline for access to the primary passed in the spring, and all some Democrats can hope for now is for Biden to voluntarily step down at the Democratic National Convention (DNC).
Matessian and Shepherd outlined the political process they would use to replace Biden at the Democratic National Convention.
1. Biden should voluntarily step down before the Democratic National Convention
according to POLITICO:
Biden will announce that he will not accept the nomination and tell his delegates to support another candidate. He could argue that he is fit enough to serve another term, but he would accept the public’s concerns about a president who will be 86 at the end of his second term. He could remind voters that he has always said he is a bridge to the next generation of Democratic leaders. He could say the economy is doing well and claim that he defeated Trump once and saved American democracy. He has done his duty.
2. Delegates nominate new candidates at the convention
POLITICO explained:
Heading into the convention, Biden will likely remain the kingmaker. If the remaining primaries play out the way they did in South Carolina and Nevada, the majority of the convention’s delegates will support Biden. Though they are under no legal obligation to support the president, or anyone he might back as a successor, they have been vetted by the Biden campaign, and many are likely to follow Biden if he endorses a candidate.
3. Tie up any outstanding issues
POLITICO Said:
Partisans will likely try to use the unprecedented situation to their advantage. The pool of candidates could be wide-ranging, including not just 2020 Democratic candidates but also those who recognize that the Democratic nomination may not be open again until 2032. … Biden belatedly withdraws from the running. The conventions will be a logistical nightmare for states: Overseas military ballots are scheduled to be distributed in some areas just two weeks after the convention ends, and in-person early voting begins in Minnesota and South Dakota as soon as September 20. True, Americans technically vote for electors, not presidential candidates, but with ballots already being cast for “Joseph R. Biden Jr.”, any effort to replace Biden after the convention would likely be subject to a court fight.
Taylor Budowicz, CEO of MAGA Inc., said it will be very difficult for Democrats to replace Biden this late in the political cycle. Posts About X:
While those eager to fill the pages and get on TV are touting the Biden alternative this morning, true Democratic strategists are realizing they have no choice but to rely on Biden.
The Biden campaign has already said it won’t withdraw, which is simple: The Federal Election Commission won’t allow them to easily transfer and allocate the hundreds of millions of dollars they desperately need to other candidates.
So who are those candidates? It is absurd that Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, AOC and the other vulture-like egomaniacs who are going to see this as their opportunity will ignore deep-rooted policy differences, personal animosities and the urgings of those around them.
To say nothing of the activist delegates who control the entire nomination process and convention rules. Activists have little understanding of the true diversity of our country or what it takes to win a national election. They are ill-prepared to actually function as a legitimate alternative to a democratic nomination process.
The only thing worse for Democrats than going into Election Day with Joe Biden as the nominee is for Joe Biden to drop out of the nomination, resulting in a cannibalistic upheaval that is sure to ensue, which is why they will stick to their plan for an early de facto nomination, ram Biden along, and hope they get their way no matter what.
Biden campaign spokesman Seth Schuster Said of hill On Friday, Biden announced he would not withdraw from the presidential race.
A CNN poll of debate viewers showed that 67% said Trump won the debate. found Thursday.
