Reports suggest a large group of around 3,000 people are heading to the US in hopes of entering the country illegally before the November presidential election. New York Post.

The newspaper reported that the group is made up of foreigners from 12 Latin American countries who are now on the long journey through Mexico to the U.S. southern border, where they hope to apply for asylum and be released into the U.S. interior.

The Biden administration has touted efforts to establish more so-called legal entry pathways to allow more foreign nationals to enter the U.S. more quickly. As part of that effort, the administration launched Customs and Border Protection’s CBP One application, which allows individuals to make appointments to apply for asylum at ports of entry.
