Federal Authorities Target $30 Million Beverly Hills Mansion

Federal officials are pursuing a civil lawsuit to seize a luxury mansion in Beverly Hills valued at $30 million. The owner, Mansour Barzani, allegedly misled the government into acquiring the property.

Barzani purchased the mansion in 2018 for $20 million and subsequently invested $30 million in renovations. The Justice Department claims he was involved in a bribery scheme with a defense contractor from Virginia, which had received over $700 million from the Defense Logistics Agency for fuel supplies during the U.S. operations against ISIS.

Executives from the contractor reportedly leveraged government funds to bribe Barzani for exclusive rights to deliver jet fuel to U.S. and coalition forces stationed at Erbil International Airport in Kurdistan. Authorities state that Barzani gained “hundreds of millions of dollars” through contracts that involved bribes of $0.25 per liter of fuel.

The complaint suggests that contractor executives felt pressured to fulfill their contracts, fearing that failure to deliver would result in termination. One officer mentioned, “If we do not deliver, it is a failure on our part.”

Barzani allegedly used bribe money to finance the purchase and renovation of the mansion located at 945 Foothill Road.

This impressive property spans over 10,000 square feet and includes four bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Currently, the mansion is valued at approximately $28.5 million, according to Zillow.

The case is being managed by Deputy Chief Michael B. Redman and Senior Trial Attorney Stephen Parker from the Criminal Division’s Money Laundering, Narcotics, and Forfeiture Division, with support from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California and the Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs.

Interestingly, Barzani is the son of former Kurdistan President Masoud Barzani and the younger brother of the current Kurdish Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani.

The Department of Justice has been approached for further comments on the situation.
