330K Jeep Grand Cherokees recalled to fix steering wheel issue

Chrysler recalled more than 330,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees this week due to a steering wheel issue that could cause drivers to lose control of the vehicle.

The vehicle was recalled because, among other things, the “upper control arm ball joint and steering knuckle” could separate and fall off on the steering wheel, resulting in loss of vehicle control and the risk of a collision. It is said that this is because it increases. Documents released this week According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall affects 2021-2023 Grand Cherokee models, affecting at least 338,238 vehicles. Owners will be notified in a letter expected to be mailed by April 12th.

Owners can also contact NHTSA for more information, according to the release.

To correct the recall, dealers will replace the upper control arm pinch bolt at no charge to owners of affected vehicles.

Drivers may hear unusual noises and notice “some warning signs” when going over bumps, according to the NHTSA document.

An investigation into Cherokee began in June 2023. Vehicle manufacturing records were examined, vehicle parts were tested, and assembly methods were reviewed to determine the affected vehicles.

According to NHTSA, as of January 2024, there have been no accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Automaker Stellantis said it made the discovery after regularly reviewing customer feedback. The company said it has not found any injuries or accidents due to the issue, but is asking all customers to “follow the instructions in the recall notice.”

Stellantis said additional vehicles are subject to the recall, including more than 18,000 vehicles in Canada, nearly 4,000 vehicles in Mexico and approximately 16,000 vehicles outside North America.
