Travel Disruptions Due to Storm
Thousands of flights faced cancellations early Monday as a significant storm created travel disruptions across the United States. Many people preparing for spring break trips are feeling the impact.
According to FlightAware, there were over 3,400 flight cancellations and delays reported this morning. Travelers across the U.S. are now scrambling to find alternative flights to get to their destinations.
The majority of cancellations were seen in the New York area—specifically at LaGuardia, JFK, Boston Logan, and Newark Liberty airports.
The region is known as one of the busiest aviation corridors globally, meaning that disruptions here can have ripple effects throughout the nation’s air traffic system.
This morning, Sean Duffy, the U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary, advised travelers on social media that a “major storm” was impacting flights and recommended checking flight statuses before heading to the airport.
The storm has brought various severe weather conditions, including snow, hail, high winds, and even potential tornadoes across multiple states. Reports indicate that over 2 feet of snow fell in Wisconsin, leading to traffic issues. Arkansas faced possible tornadoes with wind speeds surpassing 125 mph, while Texas struggled with a major dust storm.
On Sunday, there were more than 400 reports of severe weather, primarily caused by wind, as the storm system advanced eastward. The Weather Channel noted that this storm system, termed Iona, is causing heavy snowfall in the Midwest while simultaneously creating severe weather conditions in the South.
Experts are urging individuals to prepare for possible power outages and to stay informed about weather developments, along with knowing where to seek shelter in case of severe weather alerts.
