Four people, including three from the same family, were killed Sunday when a van crossed the median and into oncoming traffic on an interstate in northwestern Georgia.
Five other people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 near Emerson.
According to state police, a Kia van was traveling northbound when it crossed the grass median into the southbound lanes and struck two SUVs. The vehicles were rear-ended by another SUV and a commercial truck.

Witnesses told WAGA-TV that the Kia crashed through a cable barrier meant to prevent such crossings, and that at least one vehicle overturned during the crash.
Four people were killed when a minivan crashed through a median in Georgia.
The Bartow County coroner said the dead included the driver of the Kia, 43-year-old Dakarai Mason. So does Erin Mason, 35. Brandon Crawford, 15, all of Cartersville; Relatives say the Masons are married and Crawford is their son. Her two young sons were injured and hospitalized. The driver of the Toyota 4Runner that collided with the Kia, Amy Odom, 21, of Cartersville, also died.
The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe that was hit by the Kia was also injured, as was the adult and child in the Hyundai SUV that hit the Tahoe.
The status of the injuries was not clear on Monday.
The Bartow County School District said Monday that Brandon Crawford was a freshman at Cass High School and will be remembered for his “energy, bold smile, laugh and magnetic personality.” He was an offensive lineman and an honor roll student.

Police have not yet determined why the van entered the southbound lane.
