4 in 10 Democrats say Biden should not be party's nominee after debate: Survey

A new poll finds that more than four in 10 Democrats say President Biden should not be the party’s nominee after his poor debate performance.

A USA Today/Suffolk University poll found that 41% of Democrats think the party should replace Biden as its presidential nominee, and of those, 38% said they plan to vote for Biden. USA Today. The poll came just days after last Thursday night’s debate, where Biden’s performance left many questioning whether he should be replaced.

While a large percentage of Democrats said Biden should be replaced, Republicans in the survey were more likely to support former President Trump: Just 14% of Republicans and 12% of supporters said Trump should be replaced from the party’s slate, according to USA Today.

But more than half of respondents said both candidates should be replaced from the ballot: 54% said Biden should be replaced, and 51% said the same about Trump, according to USA Today.

What’s more, a majority of independents say both candidates should be replaced: 64% of independents say Biden should be replaced, while 63% say Trump should be replaced, according to the report.

A new survey found that 59% of Republicans said the debate had made them more likely to support Trump, while just 24% said it had made them more likely to support Biden.

USA Today reported that after the debate, 26% of independents said they were more likely to support Trump, 9% chose Biden and 17% said they were more likely to support a third-party candidate.

The Biden campaign and the White House denied speculation that Biden would drop out of the race after the debate. In the days following the debate, many major media outlets called on Biden to drop out of the race.

The poll was conducted June 28-30 among 1,000 registered voters via landline and cell phone interviews and has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
