“This is yet another absurd result of ‘bail reform’ and the Albany Legislature’s ability to substitute its own decisions for those of judges and litigants,” Tierney said. .

“We will work with the Suffolk County Police Department to resolve this investigation as quickly as possible and urge Congress to make common sense amendments to this law.

New York State Senator Dean Murray (R) also criticized the “capture and release” of suspects, calling it “just another example of the failure of Democrats’ so-called criminal justice reform.”

“In what world is this going to keep Long Islanders safe?” Murray fumed in a statement.

“This means the state Legislature and the governor must reverse dangerous policies like “bail reform,” “raising the age,” “less is more,” and “clean slates,” and get back on track. Another prime example of why: We provide law enforcement with the tools they need to keep our communities safe.”

Newly elected Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine said the law would allow people charged with dismembering bodies and leaving body parts in the community to be released without posting bail. He said it had become.

“Despite the great work of the Suffolk County Police Department and District Attorney Ray Tierney, the failed NYS bail laws of 2019 continue to put the public at risk. These laws must be changed immediately, and I We support all efforts by law enforcement to force change in Albany to make Suffolk County a safer place to live. ”
