Traffic Jam on 405 Freeway Due to Overturned Cars

Two vehicles flipped over on the 405 Freeway in Los Angeles during the early morning rush hour on Thursday, resulting in the closure of several northbound lanes and creating a significant traffic backup.

The incident was reported just before 7:30 a.m., close to Santa Monica Boulevard, as noted by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

At least one individual involved in the crash declined medical assistance, according to the CHP. The extent of injuries to anyone else remains uncertain.

As emergency responders addressed the situation, the overturned vehicles obstructed traffic, leading to long delays. Footage from KTLA displayed a jam forming behind the scene, with some drivers making attempts to exit the highway as the situation worsened.

The CHP issued a SigAlert shortly after 8 a.m., announcing the closure of lanes 4, 5, and 6 so crews could clear the wreckage.

SigAlerts are typically issued for unforeseen incidents that may cause delays for motorists exceeding half an hour, including traffic collisions or unexpected cargo spills.

By around 8:30 a.m., the SigAlert was extended for an additional 30 minutes.

The accident transpired on the northbound side of Interstate 405 near Santa Monica Boulevard in West Los Angeles, with the highway linking the Westwood area to Sepulveda Pass.

Caltrans suggested an alternative route for drivers needing to head north from Santa Monica Boulevard. Motorists were advised to travel east to Sepulveda Boulevard, then north to the entrance of Interstate 405 at Moraga Drive.

The affected lanes were eventually cleared and reopened. Meanwhile, authorities have not yet provided details regarding the cause of the accident or indicated if any citations or arrests were made in connection with the incident.
