Five U.S. Marines aboard a helicopter that went missing en route from Nevada to California were confirmed dead Thursday.
First responders located the downed CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter after several hours of searching Wednesday, but were unable to locate the crew until Thursday morning.
“It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we lost five outstanding Marines from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and the Flying Tigers during last night’s training flight,” said Commander Borgschulte. Stated. 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing said in a statement.
“These pilots and aircrews served a mission greater than themselves, and they were proud of it. First responders are working to recover the bodies of each Marine.
