Five Released from Hospital After Shooting Near Florida A&M University
According to Tallahassee police, five individuals injured in a shooting near Florida A&M University have been discharged from the hospital, while six others remain hospitalized, including one in critical condition. This update was provided on Sunday morning.
The shooting occurred on Saturday night, just before 8 p.m., near Bragg Memorial Stadium. Gunfire impacted a total of 12 individuals, with 11 suffering gunshot wounds. Among the injured were six children, creating a particularly troubling scenario, given the age of the youngest victim, who is just 11 years old.
The police are actively investigating the incident and have promised further updates as new information surfaces.
Investigators revealed that a physical confrontation involving two or three individuals apparently preceded the shooting. It was a stressful situation, particularly as the tragedy unfolded during Florida A&M University’s homecoming weekend, a time typically filled with celebrations for students and alumni.
Tallahassee’s Police Chief, Lawrence E. Revell, shared the details during a Saturday night press conference. He expressed concern particularly for the youth affected.
Lt. Gov. Jay Collins took to social media to express his condolences, stating, “My heart goes out to the victims and families impacted by the shooting near FAMU.” He also mentioned that the fact children were among those hurt made it even more heartbreaking.
As of now, there have been no arrests related to the shooting, and the Tallahassee Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is tasked with uncovering the details and identifying those responsible for this unfortunate event.
