As the presidential campaign gets underway with just over 100 days until Election Day, here are five ways Vice President Kamala Harris’ Democrats and their allies in the mainstream media are gaslighting American voters.
The manipulation has taken many forms: the cover-up of President Joe Biden’s apparent cognitive decline, the alleged insensitivity to questions about Harris’s competency, the insistence that she was selected “grassroots, bottom-up,” and attempts to bury her record on the border and in the Senate.
1: Hiding Biden’s cognitive decline
More than a year ago, in May 2023, Harvard-Harris Poll found Fifty-seven percent of Americans, including nearly a quarter of Democrats and two-thirds of independents, have doubts about Biden’s mental health. In the same poll, 65% of Americans said Biden “has shown he is too old to be president.”
But Americans have long worried about Biden’s competency, but Democrats, Harris and much of the media dismissed those concerns after the Democratic National Committee helped Biden avoid a serious challenge in the primary.

After Biden’s disastrous debate performances jeopardized his own reelection and the reelection of many lesser Democrats, the party and traditional media focused on the tone of Biden’s mental health. The scrutiny was immediate, but now that Biden is no longer a candidate, it appears to have subsided.
After the debate, Harris defended Biden during an appearance on ABC News, saying he “started out slow but finished strong.”
“Let’s not have a 90-minute debate decide who will be president of the United States,” she added.

Harris did not run in the 2024 presidential primary and is moving forward with her party’s nomination without doing so, but Democrats and the media have attacked those who question her competency.

Other critics of Harris have suggested she is the administration’s “DEI hire” – a label that has been compared to a “racist dog whistle” by those on the left, but last May Biden said he was proud of his administration’s commitment to “diversity, equity and inclusion” and that it was “the most diverse administration in history that will fully leverage the talent of our nation. And that starts at the top, with the vice president,” Breitbart News reported.
When Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) commented that Harris was a “DEI hire,” MSNBC blogger Clarissa Jean Lim wrote: dubbing Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) similarly denounced Burchett, calling the comment a “racist dog whistle.”

“This has been a grassroots, bottom-up process, and now we’re here today to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris,” Schumer declared enthusiastically, clapping his hands, then realizing that no one else was clapping, awkwardly adding, “I’m clapping. You don’t have to clap.”

4. Covering up Harris’ record on illegal immigration

At the time, many media outlets, including Axios’ Shauna Chen, Explained Harris has been called Biden’s “border czar,” though Biden himself has never used that term. After X users quickly pointed out that Axios had used the term in April 2021, the outlet updated the article with an editor’s note.
“Editor’s note: This story has been updated to clarify that Axios was among the news outlets that incorrectly referred to Harris as the ‘border minister’ in 2021.” It says:
Harris was tasked with addressing the root causes that drive illegal immigration, but as Breitbart News noted, more than 11 million illegal immigrants have entered the U.S. under the Biden-Harris administration.
