The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is offering a reward of $50,000 for information about an 18-year-old linked to the shooting death of a Capitol Hill intern in Washington, D.C.
Officials from the MPD are searching for Naqwan Antonio Lucas, who is wanted on a DC Superior Court warrant for first-degree murder while armed. Lucas hails from Granby, Massachusetts.
In a separate but related case, two other suspects, both 17 years old—Kelvin Thomas from Southeast D.C. and Jalen Lucas from Northwest D.C.—were arrested on Friday and charged as adults with first-degree murder while armed. Notably, both teens have had previous run-ins with family courts for violent crimes, as stated by U.S. attorney Jeanine Pirro.
Eric Tarpinian-Yachim, a 21-year-old intern for Representative R-Kan, was shot just a mile from the White House on June 30. Tragically, an adult woman and a 16-year-old boy were also injured in the incident.
Tarpinian-Yachim was remembered in Congress during a moment of silence in July, with Representative Estes describing him as “a dedicated, thoughtful, and kind man who loves our country.”
Attorney General Pam Bondy emphasized that if found guilty, the suspect would “face serious justice,” hoping this would bring some comfort to Tarpinian-Yachim’s family.
While it’s uncertain whether Naqwan Lucas and Jalen Lucas are connected, there’s no match between their hometowns. Authorities have yet to confirm if Naqwan has a criminal history.
The MPD is also offering up to $25,000 for information leading to the person responsible for the murder. Additionally, the FBI’s Washington Field Office is contributing $15,000, and former U.S. officials are adding another $10,000 for Naqwan Lucas’ arrest.
