Fifty-four percent of American Jews have a favorable view of the Israeli government, according to a poll released Thursday, up from last week’s poll by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). This directly contradicts claims to the contrary.
Schumer claimed to speak for the “silent majority” of American Jews when he took to the Senate floor to demand fresh elections for Israel to replace the right-wing government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. .
“I speak for myself, but I also speak for so many mainstream Jews whose nuanced views on this issue have not been adequately represented in this country’s discussion of the war in Gaza,” he said. “I’m also a voice for American Americans, the silent majority.”
But like in the days of Israel reportnew pew poll shows the opposite.
The Times of Israel reports, “A new Pew poll finds that a majority of Jewish adults (54%) have a favorable view of the Israeli government, while 44% have a favorable view of the Israeli government. “It’s an unfavorable view.”
Among Americans overall, views of the Israeli government are less favorable. Americans still overall support Israel, although 51% have a negative view of the Israeli government.
Mr. Schumer, perhaps aware that his speech backfired, rejected the idea of Mr. Netanyahu addressing a joint session of Congress, as House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) suggested earlier this week. It is reported that he is positive about this.
