56 oppose US actions against Iran: Survey

56 disapprove of US strikes on Iran: Survey

Public Opinion on Trump’s Military Action in Iran

A new report indicates that many Americans are unhappy with President Trump’s decision to carry out military strikes against nuclear facilities in Iran. A recent CNN/SSRS poll, released just two days after the strikes, revealed that 56% of respondents disapproved, while 44% approved of the military action.

The survey shows distinct divides based on political affiliation. Among Republicans, support is strong, with 82% expressing approval and only 18% disapproving. Conversely, Democrats overwhelmingly oppose the strikes—88% disapproval compared to just 12% in favor.

Independents also lean against the action, with 60% disapproving and 40% approving. This skepticism reflects a broader distrust in Trump’s decisions regarding military force in Iran; over half of Americans do not trust him to make sound judgments on this issue.

Specifically, 23% of those surveyed said they trust Trump “moderately,” while 22% feel he is a trustworthy figure in significant matters. Discussions have surfaced about the potential fallout among Trump’s supporter base, yet the majority of Republicans still appear to back his decisions regarding Iran.

Notably, 51% of Republicans claim to have “great” trust in Trump’s ability to choose wisely in such matters, while 37% have “moderate” trust. Only 8% put their faith in him “very much,” and a small 5% express zero trust at all.

On the other hand, 71% of Democrats say they trust Trump “nothing” regarding military decisions in Iran, while a mere 3% express significant trust. The sentiments among Independents are more uncertain, with almost two-thirds indicating they trust Trump “nothing,” while 15% say they trust him “too much.”

Overall, the survey highlights a lack of confidence in Trump’s judgment on military issues, with a significant portion of the public feeling uneasy. The poll was conducted prior to Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire, which is now precariously maintained. This came after accusations that Iran had violated the terms, prompting tensions with Israel. Trump has urged restraint from Israel, which later confirmed that a ceasefire was underway.

Before this ceasefire, 58% of Americans considered Iran a greater threat, while 27% perceived it as less of a threat, and 15% had mixed feelings. The poll was conducted between June 22nd and 23rd, involving 1,030 participants, with a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
