The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the epicenter of Sunday's earthquake was about 40 miles south of Bartolome Masso.

The shaking was felt across eastern Cuba, including large cities such as Santiago de Cuba. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, but residents were left shaken.

Yolanda Tabio, 76, a resident of Santiago, said people continued to run outside and gather in doorways as at least two aftershocks reeled.

“I got to see how the walls and everything moved,” she said. Associated Press.

Category 3 Hurricane Rafael battered western Cuba on Wednesday, bringing strong winds and causing power outages across the island, destroying hundreds of homes and forcing hundreds of thousands of people to evacuate. After several days, much of the island remained without power.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
