In general, many beaches follow the same basic rules.

Some beaches around the United States have more specific laws that visitors should be aware of.

1. Don’t dig holes
One common activity at the beach is playing in the sand, and sometimes digging.
This practice is illegal on certain beaches, so be aware of your location before you start digging..
In Bethany Beach, Delaware, it is illegal to dig large holes in the sand. In Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, beachgoers are prohibited from digging holes deeper than two feet with shovels. If you dig a hole, you must backfill it before departure.

2. Leave sand on the beach
While it’s perfectly fine to bring sand to many beaches in the United States, some beaches don’t.
Please stop collecting sand from the beaches of Horry County, South Carolina. We recommend checking whether this law applies in the area you are visiting before taking sand home.
The law has been in effect on Horry County beaches since 1956, according to the Myrtle Beach Sun-News.

3. Are you under 17? Pinball play is not allowed
Casinos have different laws regarding the age at which individuals can gamble. Some are 18 years old, some 21 years old.

South Carolina also has an age limit for playing pinball.
It is illegal for anyone under 18 to play the game in the state.
4. Singing and swimsuits don’t go together
Visit Florida for a beach-filled vacation? Keep the singing to a minimum.
While it may be tempting to sing while strolling along the beach, it’s actually illegal in the state to sing in a bathing suit.

Although this strange law is not generally enforced, it technically still exists.
5. You won’t find oranges near Miami Beach
If you’re craving oranges while vacationing in Miami, you won’t find them near the beach.
It is against the law to sell oranges on the sidewalk.
Individuals can be sentenced to 30 days in jail if they do so.
6. No Frisbee throwing allowed
Throwing a soccer ball or Frisbee is a common beach activity, but many beaches prohibit this.

Two examples are Ocean City, Maryland, and Bethany Beach, Delaware.
At either location, you won’t be able to throw a ball or frisbee during most of your day at the beach.
