70 percent of Haley voters in New Hampshire were not registered Republicans: CNN exit poll

Seven out of 10 voters who supported Nikki Haley in New Hampshire's Republican primary were not registered Republicans, according to CNN exit polls.

According to the poll, 70% of voters who supported Haley in Tuesday's primary were undocumented or independent, compared to just 27% who were Republicans. The remaining 3% were not registered to vote before participating in the primary.

According to exit polls, former President Trump's approval ratings in the primary were exactly the opposite. It found that 70% of those who voted for President Trump were registered Republicans, while 27% were unreported and 3% had never been registered to vote.

New Hampshire voters do not need to register as a Republican to vote in the Republican primary, but they cannot register as a Democrat.

The stark differences between Trump and Haley voters found in the exit polls were followed up with another question about voters' views on the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election.

A poll found that 80% of President Trump voters believe the former president's false claim that President Biden did not legitimately win the 2020 election. However, 83% of Hailey voters said Biden won fairly over Trump in the 2020 election.

Trump had falsely claimed that Democrats could also participate in the Republican primary and that Haley could rely on Democratic votes to help him. But for Democrats to participate, they would have had to change parties or become independent by Oct. 6.

The gap between Trump and Haley voters in exit polls could signal major problems for Haley as the Republican race continues. Not all states allow independents to participate in primaries, so Haley would need to make significant gains among registered Republicans to qualify.

In South Carolina, where Ms. Haley is the focus of the primary election late next month, voters do not need to register as party members to participate and she served as governor before joining the Trump administration in 2017. 's home state, this could help.

Trump successfully fended off a challenge from Haley in New Hampshire on Tuesday, winning by about 11 points as of the latest vote count.
