Goose Attack Leaves 72-Year-Old Woman Hospitalized

A 72-year-old woman has been hospitalized following a bizarre incident involving a flock of aggressive geese in a Texas park. Reports indicate that she suffered from internal bleeding after being knocked to the ground and attacked.

Lydia West was feeding ducks at a pond in City Lake Park, a regular part of her routine, when the trouble began. According to her son, David West, several geese suddenly turned on both her and him, causing chaos at the scene.

He recounted that a large goose came up and started stealing her food, which led to her falling hard onto the ground. “She tried to get up and escape, but the goose trapped her, leaving her unable to move,” he said.

Fortunately, a couple passing by noticed her predicament and managed to pull the aggressive bird away before alerting the paramedics. David was understandably concerned for his mother.

Once at the hospital, Lydia was later transferred to a trauma center in Dallas after doctors assessed her injuries, which included a fractured pelvis and internal bleeding, per her son’s account. He mentioned, “There were multiple fractures on one side of her pelvis.” The severity of her injuries means she now faces a long recovery process involving physical therapy.

It’s alarming to think that something like this can happen. The thought of being attacked by geese is shocking to Lydia, who never expected such aggression from them.

“It was surprising to her that a goose could behave so aggressively and potentially cause harm,” David noted. The species involved, domesticated Chinese geese, are known for being loud and often wary. They can become exceedingly territorial if they feel threatened.

David described receiving the call about the incident as surreal. “I was at work when I learned my mother had been attacked by a goose and needed medical attention. It felt ironic and strange at first,” he shared, reflecting on how unusual such an event seemed. “Looking it up online now, I see that these things happen, but I’m still in shock.”
