Brutal Attack on 75-Year-Old Grandmother in Brooklyn

Earlier this week in Brooklyn, a 75-year-old grandmother, Linda Scott, was violently beaten by two women after she asked them to clean up after their dog. The situation escalated until a Navy veteran from the neighborhood stepped in to help.

According to footage from a Ring camera, the incident occurred on Monday around 9 a.m. on President Street near Troy Avenue. The video shows Scott being punched repeatedly by a dog walker, who then knocked her to the ground in front of her home.

In the unsettling footage, one of the attackers can be seen not only punching but also stomping on Scott’s head while she lay helpless on the ground.

A neighbor, identified only as Barnett, 37, mentioned that he noticed a “commotion” when he parked his car after returning from the gym. “It looked like an argument over dog poop or something… It was a shouting match,” he recalled. “When a young woman in red approached Miss Linda, it was clear she meant harm.”

Barnett rushed to intervene, separating the attacker from Scott and quickly closing the gate to prevent the situation from worsening as two dogs ran around. He described hearing Scott’s son arrive, who then told Barnett that his mother had been assaulted.

“She was screaming. It was almost a scream of pain,” Barnett added. “I was just trying to contain things and get people off her property.” Scott was subsequently taken to One Brooklyn Health Interface Medical Center, where she was reported to be in stable condition.

Barnett referred to Scott as a “significant figure in the community” who had lived there for many years and expressed hope that the attacker would “grow up” and do the “right thing” by turning herself in. “That’s not a very good example for the next generation,” he remarked, although he hesitated to label himself a hero.

“I don’t think my Navy or law enforcement experience means anything in that context. You just look out for your neighbor and for other human beings,” he stated.

Before the attack, one of the women had accused Scott of spraying her dog with ammonia. Scott admitted to using ammonia, but only on a vacant lot next to her home, where dog owners often neglect to clean up. Her son, Matthew Scott, told a news outlet that his mother only wanted to keep the smell away and never intended to use it as a weapon.

Scott expressed her dismay at the attack, saying, “There was no need for this young woman to hit me like that. You don’t have to hit me or someone older like that. Anyone can do it.”

As of Friday, authorities reported that the assailant was still at large.
