The Los Angeles Dodgers took a new approach after the story of an 81-year-old devoted fan gained attention online earlier this month.
Errol Segal, who has held season tickets for over five decades, prefers printed tickets to watch games at Dodger Stadium.
This season, however, the team implemented a digital-only ticket policy, creating a challenge for Segal, who doesn’t have a smartphone, to attend.
Initially, the Dodgers were unyielding regarding Segal’s request, but they later decided to print tickets for him.
Segal, who operates a recycling center in South Los Angeles, has used a flip phone for many years and couldn’t access digital tickets.
Earlier this month, he expressed feeling “actually depressed” that the Dodgers did not fulfill his request for a paper ticket.
The team offered to buy the ticket back, but he declined, feeling frustrated as he said, “I’ve had this ticket for 50 years. They threw me under the bus.”
Segal mentioned, “I’m really happy when I hand over a ticket and see a smile. Nothing beats having an original paper ticket.”
With the ticket now in hand, Segal is eager to go to Chavez Ravine and support the Dodgers as they aim for their third consecutive World Series title.
“Whether they win or lose, I’m with them,” he stated. “I love everything about the Dodgers.”
Currently, though, he won’t be seeing the team for at least another week, as they started a seven-game road trip against the Colorado Rockies.
Next, they’ll head to the Bay Area for three games against the San Francisco Giants before returning home for a weekend matchup with the Chicago Cubs on April 24th.
