86,000 Unauthorized Immigrants Entered Deportation Proceedings Since Trump Became President

USCIS Launches Efforts to Expel Thousands of Unauthorized Immigrants

The USCIS, under President Donald Trump, has initiated steps to remove tens of thousands of undocumented individuals who were previously under protections established by former President Joe Biden’s administration.

Notices to Appear (NTAs) have been issued, which require these individuals to show up before a federal immigration judge as part of deportation proceedings.

In an exclusive conversation with Breitbart News, USCIS director Joseph Edrow remarked that the agency operated without a clear policy during Biden’s presidency. However, he noted a significant shift under Trump’s leadership.

“Now those individuals… when they’re denied benefits, they will receive a notice to appear in immigration court,” Edrow explained.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) states that immigration benefits can include pathways to U.S. citizenship, the ability to live permanently in the country, and work authorization for non-citizens.

Since Trump took office, approximately 86,500 NTAs have been issued to undocumented immigrants who did not secure immigration benefits, thereby entering deportation proceedings.

A USCIS official indicated to Breitbart News that the administration has been increasingly strict with the issuance of NTAs in recent months. Data from June showed around 26,700 NTAs had been issued since Trump began his term.

Of the 86,500 NTAs documented, about 60,000 have been issued recently.

Edrow emphasized the importance of a stringent NTA policy to prevent hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants from remaining in the U.S. without legal status. “It should mark the conclusion of these cases. The outcome will either be obtaining relief through an immigration judge or eventual removal from the country,” he said.
