Residents in at least three states were cut off from emergency 911 calls Wednesday night after states and towns reported being unable to make 911 calls.

Used by local law enforcement Social media On Wednesday night, residents in South Dakota, Nevada and Texas were notified that emergency 911 calls were not working.

South Dakota:

South Dakota’s entire state-wide emergency notification system was shut down Wednesday night, according to the Rapid City Police Department.

“Statewide 911 Service Outage: South Dakota State Radio Station has notified us that 911 service is currently outage throughout the state,” the station announced on X.

Large cities like Las Vegas, Nevada, also suffered widespread power outages.

“Please dial 911 on your mobile device and we will verify the number and return your call immediately,” the Las Vegas Police Department (LVMPD) said in a statement. “911 calls from landlines are currently not working. There is no prospect of recovery.”

At 12:15 a.m. Thursday, LVMPD announced that 911 phone service had been restored.

The city said it called everyone who tried to call during the power outage.

Power outages also occurred in several Texas cities, including Del Rio and Kilgore.

Del Rio police said the power outage was due to a problem with the “transportation company” and the city’s systems.

“We are aware that a major mobile phone company has experienced a service outage, which is impacting calls to 911,” the department said in a statement. “This issue is with the carrier and not with the city of Del Rio’s systems.”
