Investigation Continues in Murder of “American Idol” Music Director
Encino, California – The Los Angeles Police Department is actively looking into the unfortunate murder of Robin Kay, a prominent music director from “American Idol.” Her husband, Thomas Delca, was also found dead in their home on Monday.
LAPD officer Li Guy Golan provided an update regarding the investigation, particularly following the arrest of 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian, who has been charged with double murder. Boodarian was taken into custody at his residence on Van Owen Street without incident.
Both Kay and her husband were discovered dead in their home. As of now, Boodarian has not made any statements to police, and officials plan to formally file murder charges soon.
Golan mentioned that over the next few days, his team will compile evidence to present to the District Attorney’s Office. Intriguingly, at this stage, there appears to be no clear motive for the crime. “We are investigating possible reasons, but currently, there’s no link between the suspect and the victims,” he explained.
Forensic evidence collected from the scene has helped identify the suspect through surveillance footage. Still, Golan noted that they only have about 26 hours of evidence to work with and are continuing to review additional video and seek more witnesses.
The police have indicated that Kay and Delca both sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and preliminary reports suggest that this might have been a random act of violence. The motive remains unclear, but authorities are working to piece together what may have led to this tragic event. Golan also emphasized that detectives have found no indications that the victims were specifically targeted.
In light of this incident, there’s a palpable sense of anxiety in the community. “Such random violent attacks are extremely scary,” Golan remarked, reflecting on the concerns residents might have considering the nature of the crime. “People are worried about what’s happening,” he added.
Investigators are also examining whether any items were taken from the home, but Golan mentioned that there were no obvious signs of robbery despite the ongoing assessment. Though it’s possible something was stolen, he emphasized that it’s too early to confirm anything.
On July 10th, it seems the murder might have occurred after LAPD received calls about a potential robbery at the couple’s home that afternoon. Golan noted that efforts are underway to bolster security measures at the property in light of the tragedy, which includes a seven-foot wall with spikes and reinforced gates.
The investigation is ongoing, but it’s been reported that Boodarian is currently in custody, providing at least a slight sense of relief amidst the chaos. “It’s a comfort, but,” Golan added cautiously, “it’s unsettling to know such events can occur.”
Kay and Delca were found dead on July 14th at around 2:30 PM, following a welfare check initiated by concerned parties at their residence on White Oak Avenue. Both victims were 70 years old.
Robin Kay, known for her notable work on “American Idol,” had a rich history in the music industry, even winning multiple awards for her contributions as a music director. While the investigation continues, the community and loved ones are left to grapple with this shocking loss.
