Tesla's Sales Chief for North America Leaves Amid Ongoing Decline in EV Sales

Troy Jones Departs Tesla After 15 Years

Troy Jones, who was Tesla’s vice president of sales, service, and delivery in North America, has left the company after a notable 15-year stint. This departure comes at a time when Tesla is grappling with significant challenges, including a downturn in sales.

According to reports, Jones’s exit follows closely behind the departure of Omed Afshar, who had recently taken charge of all sales and manufacturing operations in North America and Europe. Jones isn’t the only one; Jenna Ferua, who led North American human resources, also left earlier in June, and earlier this year, top AI executive Milancobach, who was responsible for developing the Optimus humanoid robot, stepped down.

This is a critical moment for Tesla, particularly as the EV market faces mounting pressures and increased competition. During his time, Jones was instrumental in helping Tesla establish a strong foothold in the North American market.

In response to declining sales, Tesla has implemented various strategies, including vehicle updates and offering more affordable financing options. They’ve recently introduced an updated version of the Model Y Midsize SUV, rolled out a stripped-down version of the CyberTruck, and refreshed the Model S and Model X luxury cars.

Despite Wall Street’s concerns about falling sales and slim margins, Tesla executives remain optimistic. They highlight potential advantages from investments in autonomous driving and their work on the Optimus humanoid robot. Notably, on June 22, Tesla initiated its long-awaited Robotaxi service, allowing select customers, including social media influencers, to experience autonomously driven Model Y vehicles in certain areas of Austin.

The reasons behind Jones’s departure are not officially clarified yet, leaving some speculation in the industry. However, many believe it might connect to Tesla’s ongoing efforts to enhance sales amidst fierce competition.
