Sarah Michelle Gellar addressed speculation about a feud with Jennifer Love Hewitt after they didn’t pose together at the premiere of “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”
She took to Instagram to clarify things after fans noticed Hewitt was missing from the photos Gellar shared with the cast, including her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., during the Los Angeles event on Tuesday night.
Some fans jokingly remarked on the absence, with one saying, “The beef is real,” pointing out Hewitt’s lack of visibility in the pictures.
Gellar, 48, was quick to respond to the comments, stating, “I couldn’t meet the amazing @JenniferLoveHewitt during the film, for everyone asking.” She explained, “When the big carpet happened, I was inside with my kids. Unfortunately, JLH did not attend the afterparty.”
She further mentioned, “If you’ve ever been to one of these events, it can get pretty wild. Sadly, I didn’t manage to take photos with most of the cast, but that doesn’t change my admiration for them. Some moments just happen in real life, not necessarily online.”
Fans appreciated Gellar’s willingness to address the rumors, with one saying, “Thank you for clearing this up, Queen! I love you so much; it made me a bit sad!” Another chimed in with, “Thank you, Queen! Fans deserve the truth.” Some even defended Gellar, suggesting that people were unnecessarily creating drama out of nothing.
Gellar starred alongside Hewitt in the original 1997 film, and she expressed her support for Prinze Jr.’s role in the new sequel. In the first movie, Gellar’s character, Helen Shivers, met an unfortunate end, while Hewitt and Prinze Jr. reprised their roles in the sequel.
Interestingly, Gellar and Prinze Jr. had started their relationship while filming the original project, eventually marrying in 2002 and welcoming two children, Charlotte Grace, 15, and Rocky James, 12.
