The audio of the 911 call made after the golf cart accident involving John Elway’s agent has been made public. The incident, which occurred on April 26th at the Madison Club in La Quinta, California, resulted in both Elway and his agent, Jeff Sperbeck, sustaining fatal injuries. Local authorities have labeled it a “tragic accident.”
During the 911 call, Elway reported to the dispatcher that they were “in a golf cart and fell out.” He clarified that Sperbeck had not crashed but had fallen off his “back.” According to the Hall of Fame, Sperbeck suffered a severe head injury as a result.
Elway shared that Sperbeck fell out of the cart as he was behind him. The operator on the line instructed Elway to check on Sperbeck’s breathing and assess whether his chest was rising, advising him not to attempt any movements unless necessary for safety.
As the call progressed, the operator instructed Elway to find a clean cloth to help with the situation, to which Elway responded that medics were already present. The operator requested a follow-up call if Sperbeck’s condition worsened.
Elway has been somewhat shielded from accusations regarding the incident, which is under investigation. Reports suggest that he has been struggling with the emotional fallout from the loss, retreating from public life during this difficult time.
The coroner’s findings indicated that Sperbeck’s death resulted from “a trauma of blunt force,” emphasizing it was an accidental fall from the golf cart. After the event, Elway released a statement expressing his profound sadness over losing his close friend and business partner.
In his statement, Elway shared his devastation over Sperbeck’s passing, highlighting how much the latter meant in his life. He extended his heartfelt sympathies to Sperbeck’s family, noting the loyalty, wisdom, and love that Sperbeck brought to many people’s lives.
Sperbeck had been representing Elway since 1990, and they partnered on several ventures throughout their careers.
