Barack and Michelle Obama Address Divorce Speculation
Former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, have publicly refuted ongoing rumors about their marriage, which have circulated since early this year.
The speculation about their relationship began in January 2025, primarily fueled by Michelle’s absence from significant events, such as the state funeral for former President Jimmy Carter and Donald Trump’s second inauguration, which Barack attended solo.
In a recent podcast episode of “IMO,” where Barack appeared with Michelle and her brother, Craig Robinson, they referenced the rumors in a light-hearted exchange.
During earlier discussions, Michelle had mentioned that if there were any serious issues, “everybody would know about it.” She clarified that her absence from some events stemmed from personal priorities rather than marital problems.
While the podcast’s main topic involved the hurdles of raising young boys, they began with some teasing about the rumors regarding their relationship.
Barack highlighted a pertinent issue: although there’s plenty of focus on empowering girls, boys often feel overlooked, which can lead them down troubling paths, including susceptibility to harmful ideologies.
“Wait, you guys like each other?” Robinson joked as Barack joined the conversation. Michelle responded with a playful nod to the speculation, saying, “Oh yeah, the rumor mill.”
Barack added, “She took me back. It was touch-and-go for a while.”
Robinson continued the banter, observing, “It’s so nice to have you both in the same room together,” to which Michelle replied, “I know, ’cause when we aren’t, folks think we’re divorced.”
Michelle further addressed their relationship during the podcast, stating, “There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quittin’ my man. Sure, we’ve faced tough times. But we’ve also shared so much joy and adventure. I’ve grown as a person because of him.”
