Yelle Cancels North American Tour Amid Political Concerns
French electro-pop group Yelle announced on Wednesday that they are canceling their North American tour. The decision stems from the “very worried” political climate in the United States.
The band expressed growing concerns about issues like immigration and freedom of speech, stating these factors influenced their decision. “Today we made the extremely difficult decision to cancel our North American tour, and there are multiple reasons why,” the band shared with their followers on Instagram. They emphasized that the current political environment is quite distressing, particularly regarding immigration policies and freedom of expression. As they travel as a family with young children, feeling safe is a priority for them.
Besides these political worries, Yelle also mentioned the “large financial burden” of the tour. “The overall costs of this tour are no longer balanced and put a huge financial strain on us,” they added.
Yelle joins a growing list of international artists expressing concerns about the U.S. political landscape, especially after the recent re-election of President Trump.
In related news, a British punk duo, Bob Vylan, faced backlash for an anti-Israel performance at the Glastonbury Festival, leading to the revocation of their U.S. visa.
Additionally, another artist, Bells Larsen, a transgender singer-songwriter from Montreal, had to cancel her tour as a result of a new U.S. immigration policy that unfortunately does not recognize transgender identities.
