Charges Filed Against Illegal Immigrants for Alleged Conspiracy
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced charges against individuals from Mexico accused of orchestrating fake federal invitations in a bid to garner sympathy and financial support.
Juliana Perais Calderon, currently in U.S. immigration custody, faces accusations of conspiracy and providing false statements to federal officials.
This situation drew media attention following a press conference held by Calderon’s family on June 30. They claimed that she was pursued by “bounty hunters” from ICE near a Jack in the Box restaurant in Los Angeles.
The family asserted that she was, at one point, instructed to “self-deport” and that when she refused to sign denial documents, she was forcibly taken to an undisclosed location with other detainees.
In response, the family initiated a fundraising campaign, seeking $4,500, according to the DOJ.
However, federal agents found no official documentation regarding Calderon’s detention, prompting them to locate her. Eventually, she was discovered at a shopping mall in Bakersfield, California.
“The dangerous rhetoric surrounding ICE agents pretending to ‘invite’ illegal immigrants puts everyone at risk, exacerbated by political narratives that undermine public trust in federal agencies,” stated U.S. attorney Bill Essay.
“The actions described in today’s complaint suggest a deeply rooted conspiracy that will bring serious legal repercussions for all involved. I want to acknowledge our colleagues in Homeland Security Investigations and the federal agents working under intense scrutiny while maintaining professionalism.”
A statement from the DOJ revealed that they had obtained video footage of Calderon leaving Jack in the Box and entering a nearby vehicle.
“Calderon and her family were aware that law enforcement was searching for her and were concerned for her safety, yet they chose to remain inactive. Instead, Calderon seemed to believe in a staged narrative of a ‘rescue’.”
“The misuse of critical law enforcement resources is not only reckless but also jeopardizes community safety. My office has been involved in a lengthy investigation, only to find that it’s based on a hoax.”
“The true cost of this deception includes drugs like fentanyl that could have been intercepted, predators who might have otherwise been caught, and victims of trafficking who remain vulnerable due to diverted resources.”
