Nancy Pelosi’s Shift on Epstein Discourse
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) made a swift change in her stance on Thursday after initially labeling discussions about Jeffrey Epstein’s documents as a “distraction.” This came just an hour after she urged Americans to concentrate on debates related to proposed rescue packages in Congress instead of the so-called “Epstein Files.”
In a conversation with MSNBC host Chris Yansing, Pelosi emphasized the necessity of addressing issues concerning sex predators that were highlighted during former President Trump’s trial. “This is a distraction,” she stated, pointing out the significant matters at hand in Congress.
She further elaborated, mentioning that discussions about Epstein detracted from the pressing issues that Americans are facing. “It’s Jeffrey Epstein or Alcatraz,” she mused, questioning which of these topics genuinely addresses the needs of American families affected by budget issues.
When pressed for clarification, Pelosi reinforced her position by juxtaposing Epstein’s case with Trump’s suggestion to revamp Alcatraz, labeling both as diversions from urgent conversations. “I think they’re off the subject of what’s really going on. They’re altering the very fabric and culture of America by burdening future generations with massive debt,” she argued, alluding to the detrimental impacts on health, nutrition, and education.
After her MSNBC appearance, Pelosi expressed support for greater transparency in the Epstein case, criticizing Trump for not appointing a special prosecutor to investigate. In a post on X, she remarked, “For reasons only he knows, Donald Trump has refused to appoint a special prosecutor in the Epstein case and has delayed the release of the Epstein Files.” She further noted, “This week, House Democrats voted unanimously to disclose the files. Republicans opted to conceal them. Everyone linked to the Epstein case must be held accountable, respecting victims’ trauma and privacy.”
Pelosi added, “I’ll release the file.”
Trump later mentioned he instructed Attorney General Pam Bondy to work on revealing testimony from a grand jury related to Epstein’s federal child sex trafficking case.
A spokesperson for Pelosi did not respond to requests for comments regarding her statements.
