What can Shohei Ohtani not do?
Just a few days after making his fifth All-Star appearance, 31-year-old Shohei Ohtani shared some exciting news: he’s releasing a children’s book.
He announced on his Instagram that he co-wrote a book about dogs titled “Decoy Save Opening Day.”
The book is set for pre-order and is expected to hit the shelves in February of next year.
According to details from the publisher, HarperCollins, the story features a character who forgets his lucky baseball just as he’s preparing to pitch the first pitch on opening day.
Interestingly, proceeds from the book will support nonprofit animal rescue organizations.
The website mentions, “Shohei Ohtani is a prominent name in baseball and an advocate for animal rescue groups.” It also states that Ohtani and his book aim to assist these organizations in helping dogs find their forever homes.
Besides this literary venture, Ohtani is focused on making a full-time comeback as a pitcher with the Dodgers.
In his last game before the All-Star break, he pitched three scoreless innings, leading his team to a 2-1 victory over the Giants, who are their rivals.
He performed impressively, allowing just one hit while striking out four. Reflecting on his outing, Ohtani expressed satisfaction with his performance: “Overall, it was a very efficient outing. I was happy to keep the run from scoring and maintain our lead throughout the game.”
Having not pitched in the 2024 season, he mentioned feeling like his abilities are getting better. “I’m happy with my pitch command and being able to attack the zone,” he noted. “Today, my fastball felt really good, so I leaned on it a bit more.”
On the batting side, he’s leading the National League with 32 home runs and boasts an impressive .988 OPS.
