Satoshi-era Bitcoin holder moves another 40K BTC to Galaxy Digital

Large Bitcoin Transfers to Galaxy Digital

Recently, Satoshiera moved 80,201 bitcoins, equivalent to about $4.777 billion, to Galaxy Digital. This transfer follows another transfer of 40,009 BTC on Tuesday.

According to data from a blockchain analysis service, this indicates that in just four days, significant holders, often referred to as whales, have moved a total of 80,201 BTC to Galaxy Digital, totaling around $9.6 billion at current market values.

During this period, at least 6,000 bitcoins were also sent elsewhere. Details about these movements can be found through dedicated blockchain analysis resources.

Whales Currently Making Moves

On July 4, it was reported that some whales began redistributing their holdings for the first time in quite a while, having accumulated large amounts of Bitcoin over the years, specifically around April 2011 and May 2021.

Kadan Stardelman, Chief Technology Officer at Komodo Platform, remarked about the speculative nature of these moves, suggesting that the whales might aim to take profits that could be quite significant.

With Bitcoin reaching a new all-time high of just over $122,000 on Monday, these whales collectively held more than $9.7 billion worth of the cryptocurrency at that point.

Stadelmann speculated that these whales might have personal or strategic reasons for these moves, like possibly investing in new ventures or even funding projects aligned with the original ideals of Bitcoin.

On the other hand, he noted that whales might have mixed feelings about Bitcoin’s increasing institutional adoption and potential regulatory impacts.

Is a Bitcoin Sale on the Horizon?

In the past, deposits from these whales to Galaxy Digital have led to chatter about potential sales, but Stadelmann cautions against jumping to conclusions. It’s possible that they are simply reorganizing their holdings for greater security or re-evaluating their long-term strategies.

As Stadelmann pointed out, whales could invest in new Bitcoin projects or use Galaxy Digital as a way to distribute BTC among smaller wallets.

There’s also speculation from crypto trader Marty Party, who suggested that Galaxy Digital might have acquired Bitcoin through these transactions.

“In my opinion, they might buy up the full 80,000, liquidate parts, and keep some for future needs, using the revenue to support their business,” he stated.

Nakamoto’s Rising Wealth

Interestingly, Bitcoin’s recent surge elevated its creator, Nakamoto Atoshi, to the 11th richest individual globally, with an estimated 1.096 million Bitcoins across various wallets, valued over $131 billion, according to Forbes.
