It’s pretty common for NBA players to engage with fans and celebrities during games.
But for Suni Lee and OG Anunoby, this past season had a different vibe.
The six-time Olympic medalist, who calls herself a big basketball fan, often found herself courtside at Madison Square Garden, watching the Knicks push through to the Eastern Conference Finals.
After several games, you could spot Lee chatting with Anunoby.
Recently, Lee, 22, addressed the speculation surrounding their friendship.
“Honestly, it started off as a joke but feels like it grew into something more, mainly because of social media,” she shared with Mirror US Sports. “But we’re truly just friends; I’m pretty close with a bunch of the Knicks guys, including [Karl-Anthony Towns] and his partner Jordyn Woods. It’s nice to see them doing their thing. I really enjoy basketball, so I’ve been going to most of the games.”
“There’s nothing romantic happening,” she continued. “We’re just friends. I completely support the team and the Knicks.”
Lee, who is originally from Minnesota, explained that she’s been able to attend a lot of Knicks games since moving to New York, coinciding with Towns’ big trade involving Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.
She was familiar with the city, having spent nine years in Minnesota.
“I met Jordan and Kat back in Minnesota,” she reminisced. “When I moved to New York after the trade, I was really happy to reconnect with familiar faces.”
On Wednesday, Lee was honored for her impressive year with the ESPYS award for Best Comeback Athlete. She collected three medals during the 2024 Olympics in Paris: a gold for the women’s team all-around and bronze in both individual all-around and uneven bars.
