Updates on Unaccompanied Children in U.S. Custody
Bordertum Homan provided insights to Fox News host Harris Faulkner regarding the issue of unaccompanied children that seem to have been overlooked by the Biden administration during a segment on Friday.
As of February 2023, at least 85,000 children in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) were unaccounted for, a figure mentioned in a report that cited the number could be as high as 300,000 according to the New York Times. In response to Faulkner’s inquiry, Homan highlighted that only about 7,500 children had been located. “The Biden administration isn’t actively searching for them, not for those 300,000,” he stated. “From the very start, President Trump made it clear that we needed to find these children, along with ensuring the strictest border safety in our history. Tragically, many of these children end up victims of forced labor and sex trafficking, some of whom we have discovered are with their families.”
On July 10, ICE conducted a search at two marijuana farms in California, rescuing at least ten minors, eight of whom were reportedly unaccompanied. The operation encountered violence, including an incident where an individual allegedly discharged a firearm at an ice agent.
“Our main goal is to combat forced labor and trafficking, ensuring these children’s safety,” Homan remarked. “The previous administration never prioritized these issues.” He continued to refute narratives about family separation, stating, “When it comes to the real separation, we have hundreds of families who’ve lost their children to violence from those released onto the streets by Joe Biden.”
Homan stressed the need for action, saying, “We’ll address immigration policies down the line, but right now it’s about protecting these vulnerable children.”
Former President Trump had implemented various executive orders aimed at tackling illegal immigration and enhancing border security. For instance, he designated Mexican drug cartels, Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua, and the MS-13 gang as foreign terrorist organizations. He also invoked the Alien Enemies Act to expedite the deportation process for gang members as of March 15.
