Last month, President Trump reiterated the administration’s assertion that U.S. forces had “completely destroyed” three Iranian nuclear sites. However, he reportedly opposed a fresh assessment indicating that only one of those sites had been taken out.
Trump stated, “All three nuclear sites in Iran have been completely destroyed and/or wiped out. It will take years for them to recover. If Iran wants to rebuild, they’d be better off considering new locations before the current ones vanish.”
According to a new intelligence report, multiple news outlets shared that the Iranian nuclear enrichment facility at Fordow was nearly obliterated during a strike on June 21. Nevertheless, if Tehran decides to proceed, two other significant sites—Natanz and Isfahan—could potentially restart uranium enrichment.
The Department of Defense and the White House have contested these reports, asserting that airstrikes conducted by B-2 bombers and submarines launching Tomahawk missiles had devastated all three locations.
“The reliability of so-called fake news media mirrors the state of Iran’s nuclear facilities. It will take years to recover from the destruction,” Trump remarked. He emphasized that Americans are in agreement, asserting that the nuclear sites in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz are completely gone.
“There’s no doubt about that,” he added.
Parnell mentioned to reporters earlier this month that the Department of Defense’s intelligence analysis revealed Iran’s nuclear program had significantly weakened “in a year or two.”
The Trump administration was vocally critical of the media in June for reporting on an initial low-confidence assessment that came shortly after U.S. strikes. This report suggested that military actions had only delayed Iran’s nuclear program for a few months.
The military operation, dubbed Operation Midnight Hammer, commenced on June 21, shortly after hostilities flared between Israel and Iran.
In late June, Trump indicated he would contemplate more strikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities if U.S. intelligence raised further alarms regarding Tehran’s uranium enrichment activities.
