Scarsdale Tops Wealthiest Suburb List in 2023
Scarsdale, New York, has been recognized as the richest suburb in the United States for 2023, boasting an impressive average household income exceeding $600,000.
Located in Westchester County, this upscale community, which has about 17,700 residents, has outshined others in a recent report from Gobankingrates.
The analysis evaluated over 5,000 suburban households, utilizing data from the US Census, the 5-Year American Community Survey, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
With an average household income of $601,193, Scarsdale led the rankings by a significant margin.
Just behind, Rye, another affluent town in New York, claimed the second spot with an average household income of $421,259.
The third place went to West University Place, a suburb of Houston, Texas, with an average income of $409,677. Interestingly, Scarsdale and Rye were the only New York towns present in the top 20.
California is home to the majority of the wealthiest suburbs, particularly around Silicon Valley, with a staggering ten out of the top ten.
Gobankingrates also examined real estate prices in these wealthy suburbs, noting that New York areas generally offer more value compared to those in California. For instance, in Scarsdale, the average home price is around $1.2 million, while in Los Altos, California—ranked fourth with an average income of $403,512—homes cost an eye-watering $4.5 million.
Additionally, several towns in the Tri-State area made it into the top 50 wealthiest suburbs. New Jersey had Tenafly, Summit, and Westfield on the list, while Greenwich in Connecticut ranked 34th, with an average annual income of $297,081.
