Rosie O’Donnell Criticizes Trump and Colbert’s Cancellation
Rosie O’Donnell took to TikTok over the weekend, launching a fervent critique of former President Donald Trump regarding the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s late-night show. She expressed her concern about Trump’s comments on the mental and physical state of Colbert and artists who oppose him, stating, “We will arrest all artists who don’t agree with him.” O’Donnell insinuated that Trump was behind Colbert’s show being axed, claiming it was part of a broader campaign against dissenting voices.
During her tirade, she asked rhetorically, “You’re not going to shut us up. You have no right to shut us up. You never did. You will never do that.” Her comments suggested a fear that Trump might target artists broadly, indicating that many do oppose him, though not all may voice their opinions openly.
Reflecting on Colbert, O’Donnell remarked, “What’s going on with Stephen Colbert? One of the greatest hearts we’ve ever had in comedy. A very loving and caring man. I admire him so much.” She offered him high praise, emphasizing his bravery and kindness.
On Thursday, CBS announced the cancellation of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” for 2026, citing “a purely financial decision” rather than any political motivations, including the recent merger with Skydance. This announcement followed a lawsuit settlement between Paramount, CBS’s parent, and Trump regarding a past episode of “60 Minutes.”
Trump himself responded to the cancellation, stating on Truth Social, “I absolutely love Colbert being fired. His talent was less than he rated,” and added comments about Jimmy Kimmel, suggesting that Kimmel was less talented than Colbert.
The feud between Trump and O’Donnell was reignited over the weekend when Trump threatened to revoke her U.S. citizenship. He claimed she did not serve the best interests of the nation and suggested she should remain in Ireland. This statement came after O’Donnell relocated there following Trump’s initial election win in 2016.
In her TikTok comments, O’Donnell doubted Trump’s mental fitness, asserting he was “physically ill” and suggested he might have dementia. She questioned how long figures opposing his administration could sustain their careers without backlash, stating, “His dementia is out of control. He is scary.”
Last month, O’Donnell shared her feelings about her mental health since Trump’s first election victory, mentioning that it had left her feeling “very depressed.” While the situation unfolds, it’s clear that tensions remain high between her and Trump, and the future of late-night comedy may be caught in the crossfire.
