Mexican Cartel Gunmen Employ New Strategy to Conceal Attacks on Police — Fake Accidents

Recently, cartel militants launched a bold assault on state police, using dump trucks to ram into an armored police vehicle occupied by five officers, leading to the deaths of two policemen and injuries to three others.

The incident occurred this week in Nuevo Laredo, where gunmen from the Los Zetas cartel utilized dump trucks to speed towards police vehicles. The collision tragically resulted in the deaths of two officers and injuries to three others, including the police commander, who had previously been targeted.

Following the attack, authorities apprehended Alfredo Martinez Gomez, identified as the dump truck driver, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

This strategy seems to allow CDN-Los Zetas to mask their assaults as mere accidents, thus circumventing direct responsibility. Local reports have described the event as simply a traffic mishap.

Interestingly, the CDN-Los Zetas had employed a similar tactic back in June when they used a tractor trailer to strike another police vehicle, resulting in injuries to two officers.

The intended target in this latest attack was Lewis Angel Pena Flucamei, the local Tamaulipas State Police commander, recognized for spearheading operations against the cartel in Nuevo Laredo. This group previously made an attempt on his life back in May, firing at a seafood restaurant where he was dining with fellow officers, injuring two officers and three innocent bystanders. During that incident, the CDN-Los Zetas accused him on social media of colluding with rival cartels.
