Minnesota Senator Omar Fate, a declared democratic socialist, has received the endorsement of the national Democratic Farmer Labor (DFL) party in his bid for mayor of Minneapolis.
In a recent post, he was compared to New York City candidate Zohran Mamdani, highlighting his progressive stance. Fate expressed his gratitude, stating that the DFL’s support signifies a message from Minneapolis residents concerned about unfulfilled promises and typical political maneuvering.
“I am truly honored to be the DFL’s candidate for mayor of Minneapolis,” Fate remarked in his post. “This support illustrates the frustrations of Minneapolis residents with broken promises and standard politics. We have a duty to create a city that works for everyone.”
According to Breitbart News, Fateh is the first Somali-American and Muslim to serve in the Minnesota Senate. He has characterized Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) as a “white supremacist” for opposing taxpayer-funded college tuition for undocumented individuals.
In a post from June 2023, Boebert claimed that undocumented immigrants in Minnesota are “eligible for free university tuition,” while Fate has noted a “decline in enrollment across all campuses.”
Breitbart News previously reported that Fateh has been a proponent of allowing taxpayer-funded university tuition. “Our goal is to make sure this is available for every Minnesotan, regardless of their documentation status,” Fateh stated.
Fateh also pledged to safeguard Minneapolis from what he termed the “hostile White House” while aiming to “diversify” the city’s public safety response.
“For Minneapolis to be affordable and beneficial for all, a mayor must work as hard as the people do,” he said in a video. “I’m prepared to put in that effort. I’m ready to help create a Minneapolis where working individuals can afford to call home.”
