Lili Reinhart Takes Charge of ‘Theory of Love’ Film Adaptation
Attention all fans of Ali Hazelwood! Lili Reinhart is stepping into the role of both star and executive producer for the film adaptation of Hazelwood’s bestselling novel, Theory of Love. This upcoming romantic comedy from Amazon MGM Studios centers on Olive Smith, a biology doctoral candidate, who enters a fake relationship with her strict professor, Dr. Adam Carlsen. As their relationship evolves, they find themselves questioning their understandings of love.
Reinhart, known for her iconic role as Betty in the CW’s Riverdale, is coming off a win for Best Actress from the series Mania for her work in Hal & Harper. She took on multiple roles in this project, adding to her growing list as both a lead actress and producer. Her previous credits include Chemical Heart on Prime Video and Netflix’s See Both Methods. Plus, she’s been involved in producing short films, one of which received an Oscar nomination—Invincible.
In terms of the adaptation of Theory of Love, Reinhart will join forces with Hazelwood and Catherine Hagedorn in the executive production team. Claire Scanlon, who directed I’ll Set It Up, is on board as the director, alongside producer Elizabeth Cantillon, known for her work on Charlie’s Angels. Reinhart is also set to star with Tom Bateman, praised for his role in the 2017 film Murder on the Orient Express.
It seems the excitement for this project is mutual, as Hazelwood expressed his enthusiasm in a statement accompanying the announcement. He mentioned how incredible it feels to see this film coming to life, emphasizing the impressive team behind it.
