Oregon Offers Free Tax Help Until Mid-October
Oregon is reminding residents who haven’t submitted their 2024 tax returns by the April 15 deadline that they can still access free tax assistance until mid-October.
The Tax Infrastructure Grant Program from the Oregon Department of Human Services aims to help individuals maximize their income benefits on tax returns. Interestingly, people from various income brackets may qualify for extra support.
The state suggests that it’s a good time to file, assuring taxpayers that there are no penalties for those who haven’t yet completed their returns.
Christine Decker, a spokesperson for the Department of Human Services, mentioned hopes for another kicker next year. She emphasized that Oregonians should complete their 2024 tax returns to remain eligible for potential refunds. The kicker can sometimes happen in even-numbered years and may lead to hundreds or even thousands of dollars in state refunds.
Moreover, the state indicated that some taxpayers might not file because they earn less than the threshold for mandatory filing. However, not filing could jeopardize their access to benefits like the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Oregon Kids Credit.
