The American judicial system is facing a significant influx of human trafficking cases. Jaco Booyens, a contributor to BlazeTV, aims to improve how these disturbing crimes are addressed.
“Congress has done a commendable job in codifying laws against human trafficking, developing effective policies, and creating 41 task forces funded through their awareness campaigns,” Booyens shared during an interview with BlazeTV’s host. However, he pointed out a crucial gap: “We’ve never really engaged with the Justice Department or the Department of Justice.”
“The issues in tackling human trafficking often originate from the Department of Justice,” he added, highlighting the need for better oversight.
This necessity led Booyens to establish Jaco Booyens Ministries, an organization focused on assisting victims of human trafficking, motivated by spiritual guidance. His practical strategies aim to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected.
“We plan to collaborate with Congress, pushing for specialized trafficking courts in each county and city so that judges can properly handle such cases with the expertise they require.
“No one is there to manipulate the case. Instead, we will have actual prosecutors who understand the complexities of human trafficking, and their work will be closely monitored.” He also pointed out an alarming trend where many traffickers are evading serious consequences by pleading guilty to lesser charges.
“Every year, tens of thousands are trafficked in the U.S., yet we’ve seen only 148 federal prosecutions in the past five years,” he remarked. “Indictments are decreasing while trafficking incidents continue to rise.”
“When it comes to prosecutions for other felonies, the numbers are starkly different,” he noted, “around 92% get prosecuted.”
