Jeff Daniels Backs Kamala Harris, Critiques Trump Administration
Actor Jeff Daniels expressed support for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, describing her as “a good choice,” akin to how Abraham Lincoln governed. This statement reflects his views during a recent discussion with host Nicole Wallace on The Best People.
Daniels, notable for his role in the film Stupid Dunbar, previously alluded to Donald Trump’s presidency as a potential threat to democracy. He reasoned that Harris, the former vice president, shares similarities with Lincoln. In his opinion, her collaboration with figures like former Republican Representative Liz Cheney showcases a commitment to bringing together varied political perspectives.
“I’m still thinking about Kamala and how I think she was a good choice… she did what Lincoln did. Liz Cheney would have been Secretary of State,” Daniels remarked.
“That’s what Lincoln did. He surrounded himself with those who disagreed with him. Not the current situation where it seems more about catering to a singular agenda,” he added.
Daniels also took a critical stance towards the Trump administration, suggesting the president’s actions reflect a departure from basic human decency.
“We lost our decency. We lost our courtesy. We respected the rule of law. We normalized verbal abuse on the internet. We normalized bullying… It’s wrong not only in America but in being human,” he asserted.
In another interview, he denounced Trump for fostering an environment of “racism and prejudice,” suggesting that the former president has a tendency to incite hatred.
“Whatever Trump does tends to amplify hatred… That’s why you’re seeing racism and prejudice,” he stated.
He also commented on Trump’s iconic slogan, asserting, “The hat should say America should be white again. That’s what we should say.”
Despite Daniels’ criticisms, Trump managed to win all seven swing states in the recent elections, marking a significant political achievement for the Republican party.
